What does a locksmith do?

A locksmith is someone who works with locks on cars, safes, windows or doors. They repair, install, and adjust locks in everything from the office building to cars to houses. They also tend to offer services to people who have been locked out or to individuals who are looking for a consultation about their system of security. This is a profession that has been around for quite a long time; as long as there have been keys and locks to fit, there have been people who have been specialized to work on them.

What do they do?
The locksmiths are tradesmen who are skilled to adjust, install and repair residential, commercial and automotive locks and services in regard to security. A locksmith does duplicate and fabricate locking keys, changing the combination of locks, and lock bypass when faced they are authorized.
Their knowledge and skills in repairing and installing conventional security hardware and lock sets make them work in a commercial, residential, and industrial establishment which requires various levels of physical security to protect them from the entry which is unauthorized.
There is a misconception that a home locksmith work is to pick locks only. While it might be true to some extent as that is their main task, they are in a position to do some other things which include:
• Cut keys: Locksmiths are able to cut keys for locks needed in commercial and residential buildings, safes, vehicles, and windows just to name but a few.

• Provide locks for doors and windows: Locksmiths can repair, provide and service door and window locks, which are two of the most important common types of locks for commercial and residential use.

• Provide locks for security safes: Not as common as the door locks, the locks for security safes are the type which most locksmiths specialize in.
